Essential Post-Prayer, Morning, and Evening Adhkar Based on Authentic Hadith

This article is derived from the book "Salah Mustafa ﷺ" authored by the esteemed Abu Hamza Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi.

✿ Sunnah Adhkar After Obligatory Prayers

After concluding the prayer by saying Salam, the worshipper should say "Allahu Akbar" loudly, then recite "Astaghfirullah" three times, and thereafter engage in the following Sunnah supplications:

اللهم انت السلام ومنك السلام تباركت يا ذالجلال والإكرام
(Sahih Muslim, Book of Mosques, Chapter on the Recommendation of Dhikr After Prayer, Hadith no. 1334)
"O Allah! You are Peace and from You is Peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor."

(Sahih Muslim, Book of Mosques, Hadith no. 13384)
"There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over everything. O Allah! None can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and no wealth can benefit the wealthy against You."

Sayyiduna Mu'adh ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه narrated:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took my hand and said:
"By Allah, I love you, O Mu'adh! So do not forget to say after every obligatory prayer:"

(Sunan al-Nasa'i al-Kubra, Book of Prayer, Hadith no. 1226 – Al-Mustadrak of Al-Hakim)
"O my Lord! Help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner."

After every prayer:
➤ Say SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 33 times,
completing the count to 100 by saying:
لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير
(Sahih Muslim, Book of Mosques, Hadith no. 597)
"There is no deity but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over everything."

It is Sunnah to recite after every obligatory prayer:
Ayat al-Kursi
Surah Al-Ikhlas (قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ)
Surah Al-Falaq (قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ)
Surah Al-Nas (قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ)

Especially after Fajr and Maghrib, these three Surahs should be recited three times each.

✿ Important Rules About Tasbih After Salah

➤ It is better to use the right hand for counting tasbih instead of using prayer beads (misbahah).

"I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ counting tasbih on his right hand."
(Sahih Sunan Abi Dawood, Hadith no. 1330 – Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 3411)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Count on your fingers, for they will be questioned and will speak on the Day of Resurrection."
(Sahih Sunan Abi Dawood, Hadith no. 1329 – Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 3583)

Shaykh Ibn Baz رحمه الله stated:

"Using the right hand for tasbih is preferred, following the authentic Sunnah."
(Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 1, p. 418)

✿ Morning and Evening Adhkar

Morning Adhkar are recited after Fajr and Evening Adhkar after Maghrib or close to it.

Important Morning and Evening Supplications:

Ayat al-Kursi:
Reciting once in the morning and once in the evening grants protection from jinn.
(Al-Sunan al-Kubra by Al-Nasa'i – Kitab al-Du'a by Al-Tabarani – Sahih al-Targhib)

Three Quls:
Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq, and Surah Nas – recited three times each in the morning and evening.

Declaration of Tawhid 100 times:
لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير
(Sahih Bukhari – Sahih Ibn Majah – Sahih al-Targhib)
Brings the reward of freeing ten slaves, writes 100 good deeds, erases 100 sins, and grants protection from Shaytan.

Tasbih: SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi
➤ Reciting it 100 times results in forgiveness even if sins are as much as the foam of the sea.
(Sahih Muslim)

Protective Invocation:
(Sahih Sunan al-Tirmidhi – Sahih Sunan Abi Dawood)
Prevents harm throughout the day.
