The Descent of Ibn Maryam and the End of Envy

❖ Question:
When will envy (ḥasad) come to an end among people?
❖ Answer:
Envy will come to an end when Sayyidunā ʿĪsā عليه السلام, the son of Maryam, descends. As proven by the following ḥadīth:
It is narrated from Sayyidunā Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه that he said the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
«والله لينزلن ابن مريم حكما عدلا، فليكسرن الصليب وليقتلن الخنزير، وليضعن الجزية، ولتتركن القلاص فلا يسعى عليها، ولتذهبن الشحناء والبغضاء والتحاسد، وليدعون إلى المال فلا يقبله أحد »
“By Allah! The son of Maryam will surely descend as a just ruler. He will break the cross, kill the swine, and abolish the jizyah. At that time, the she-camel will be left without anyone to run after it. Hatred, enmity, and envy will surely vanish. And people will be called to wealth, but none will accept it.”
