Embracing and Greeting ‘Eid Mubarak After the Eid Sermon: A Shar’i View

Written by: Hafiz Zubair Ali Zai (رحمه الله)

❖ Question:

What is the Shar’i ruling on exchanging Eid greetings and embracing one another after the Eid sermon, as commonly practiced on the days of Eid?

❖ Answer:

To the best of my knowledge, there is no proof for the act of embracing (hugging) after the Eid khutbah.
However, the supplication "تَقَبَّلَ اللهُ مِنَّا وَمِنْك" (May Allah accept from us and from you) is authentically reported from the Companions (رضي الله عنهم).
