Earthquake Prayer (Namaz-e-Zalzalah)

Written by: Abu Saeed

❀ Abdullah bin Harith Al-Ansari narrates about Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) saying:

"He performed a prayer during an earthquake in Basra. He prolonged the Qunoot, then bowed (Ruku), then raised his head and prolonged the Qunoot again, then bowed, then prostrated (Sajda). He repeated the same in the second Rak'ah, resulting in six bows and four prostrations in his prayer. Then he said, 'This is how the prayer for signs (natural disasters) is performed.'"

[Al-Sunan al-Kubra by Al-Bayhaqi: 3/343, its chain is as clear as the sun in clarity]

◈ Ja'far bin Burqan says:

"Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote to us during an earthquake in Sham, instructing: 'Go out on such-and-such a Monday of such-and-such a month, and whoever among you can give charity should do so, for Allah the Exalted says:

'قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّى * وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّى

'He is indeed successful who purifies himself, and remembers the name of his Lord, then prays.'

(Surah Al-Ala: 14)'"

[Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah: 2/472, and its chain is authentic]
