Sharʿi Ruling on Earnings from a Job Obtained Through Bribery
Taken from: Aḥkām wa Masāʾil, Masāʾil al-Buyūʿ, vol.1, p.393
❖ The Question
If a person secures a job by giving a bribe, will his earnings from that job be ḥalāl or ḥarām?
❖ The Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
- If the nature of the job itself is Sharʿan permissible, meaning it is a lawful occupation according to Islamic principles and does not involve any ḥarām work, then the salary earned from that job will be ḥalāl and permissible.
- However, if the work itself is ḥarām or impermissible, then the income derived from it will also be ḥarām.
