Duʿāʾ After Obligatory Ṣalāh — Is Raising the Hands Proven?

Source: Aḥkām wa Masāʾil – Discussion on Ṣalāh, Vol. 1, p. 211

❖ Question:

Please clarify the matter of making collective duʿāʾ with raised hands after obligatory prayers. Since some narrations mention that duʿāʾ is more readily accepted after ṣalāh, how should one make duʿāʾ?

❖ Answer:

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿammā baʿd!

  • Duʿāʾ after obligatory ṣalāh is established from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.
  • The Prophet ﷺ also encouraged making duʿāʾ after prayer, and this time is indeed a moment of acceptance.

However:

  • Raising the hands during this duʿāʾ is not established from the Prophet ﷺ.
  • Likewise, arranging collective duʿāʾ with raised hands after every ṣalāh is not transmitted from him ﷺ.

Thus, while making duʿāʾ after ṣalāh is Sunnah and rewarding, raising the hands or making it a collective routine is not proven.
