Does the Plague Spread Due to Jinn?
Answer:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari رضي الله عنه that the Noble Prophet ﷺ said:
"أَنَّهُ وَخْزُ الشَّيْطَانِ"
[Musnad Ahmad, Hadith No. 395/4; Musnad Abī Ya‘lā, Hadith No. 7226; Ṭabarānī, Hadith No. 1396]
“Indeed, it (the plague) is a prick from the devil.”
In another narration, it is stated:
"الطَّاعُونُ وَخْزُ أَعْدَائِكُمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ، وَفِيهِ شَهَادَةٌ"
[Sahih al-Jāmi‘, Hadith No. 3951]
“The plague is a prick from your enemies among the jinn, and martyrdom is granted through it.”
Shayṭān has been a long-standing enemy of mankind, and many trials come upon humans due to him. Among these trials is the disease of the plague, which—after divine decree—is evidently linked to Shayṭān.
A Muslim can protect himself from the evil of Shayṭān through the prescribed daily supplications (Masnūn Adhkār).
