The existence of Jinns is firmly established through:
✔ The Quran
✔ Mutawatir (mass-transmitted) Hadiths
✔ Consensus of the Muslim Ummah (Ijma')
However, some groups such as Jahmiyyah, Mu'tazilah, philosophers, extreme Qadariyyah, and atheists (Zindiqs & Mulhids) deny their existence.
Below are brief but strong evidences proving the existence of Jinns:
➊ Allah says in the Quran:
"And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy—devils from mankind and jinn."
(Surah Al-An’am: 112)
This clearly establishes the existence of Jinns alongside humans.
➋ Allah states:
"And We created the jinn before [mankind] from scorching fire."
(Surah Al-Hijr: 27)
➌ Allah further says:
"And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire."
(Surah Ar-Rahman: 15)
These verses affirm that Jinns were created before humans and from fire.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"Angels were created from light, Jinns were created from smokeless fire, and Adam was created from what has been described to you."
(Sahih Muslim: 2996)
➎ Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) narrated:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"Bones and dung are food for the Jinn. A delegation of Jinn from Nusaybin came to me—what excellent Jinn they were! They asked me for provisions, so I supplicated to Allah that they find food on every bone they come across."
(Sahih al-Bukhari: 3860)
This explicitly proves that Jinns eat, interact, and exist as living beings.
➏ Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) reported:
"A Jinn stood in front of me."
(Al-Sunan Al-Kubra by Al-Nasa’i: 7963, with a sound chain)
➐ Sayyidah Umm Salamah (رضي الله عنها) reported:
"I heard a Jinn crying over Husayn (رضي الله عنه)."
(Fadail al-Sahaba by Ahmad bin Hanbal: 1373, with an authentic chain)
These narrations prove that Jinns interact with humans and have emotions.
"The existence of Jinn is an absolute truth. They are a creation of Allah, among them are believers and disbelievers. They see us, but we do not see them. They eat, reproduce, and die like humans."**
(Al-Muhalla bil Athar: 1/33)
➒ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) (D. 728H) said:
"No sect among the Muslims has denied the existence of Jinn, nor that Allah sent Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) to them.
Even the majority of non-Muslims—including the People of the Book (Jews & Christians)—acknowledge their existence.
Only a few among them deny this reality, as is the case with some misguided Muslims (like Mu'tazilah & Jahmiyyah).
However, the majority of scholars affirm their existence, as it is a matter established by the Mutawatir reports of the Prophets.
This proves that Jinns are living, intelligent beings who have free will and are accountable for their actions."
(Majmu' al-Fatawa: 10/19)
➓ Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haytami (رحمه الله) (D. 974H) stated:
"The Ahl al-Sunnah firmly believe in the existence of Jinn.
The Mu'tazilah’s denial is in clear opposition to the Quran, Sunnah, and Ijma' (consensus of the Ummah).
Some scholars have ruled that denying their existence amounts to disbelief (kufr), as it rejects the clear texts of the Quran and Mutawatir Hadith.
This is why some Maliki scholars declared: 'The correct position is that denying the existence of Jinn is an act of disbelief, as it rejects the Quran, Sunnah, and Ijma'.'"
(Al-Fatawa al-Hadithiyyah, p. 89)
Jinns are intelligent, living beings created from smokeless fire before humans.
They have free will, eat, reproduce, and will be judged by Allah.
Islamic texts confirm their existence and interactions with humans.
Denying the existence of Jinns is a serious deviation from Islam and could lead to disbelief.
