❀ Ruling on Masturbation During Fasting and Explanation of Qadha or Kaffarah

✦ The Question
If a fasting person commits masturbation during the day in Ramadan, will the fast break? And will Kaffārah (expiation) become necessary?
✦ Shar‘i Ruling
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
✔ If a person masturbates during fasting, and ejaculation (انزال) occurs as a result:
◈ The fast is invalidated.
◈ The person will be required to make up (قضا) for that specific day’s fast after Ramadan.
✦ Is Kaffārah Required?
No, Kaffārah is not required in this case.✔ Kaffārah (i.e. fasting 60 consecutive days or feeding 60 poor people) is only obligatory in the case of sexual intercourse (jimaʿ) during fasting in Ramadan.
✦ Additional Note: Repentance Required
◈ Masturbation is a ḥarām (prohibited) act in Islam.
◈ Therefore, along with making up the fast, the person must:
✔ Sincerely repent to Allah ﷻ
✔ Resolve not to repeat the sin
✔ Increase in acts of righteousness and self-restraint
✔ Conclusion:
