❀ Ruling on Masturbation During Fasting and Explanation of Qadha or Kaffarah
Source: Fatāwā Arkan-e-Islam
✦ The Question
If a fasting person commits masturbation during the day in Ramadan, will the fast break? And will Kaffārah (expiation) become necessary?
✦ Shar‘i Ruling
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
✔ If a person masturbates during fasting, and ejaculation (انزال) occurs as a result:
◈ The fast is invalidated.
◈ The person will be required to make up (قضا) for that specific day’s fast after Ramadan.
✦ Is Kaffārah Required?

✔ Kaffārah (i.e. fasting 60 consecutive days or feeding 60 poor people) is only obligatory in the case of sexual intercourse (jimaʿ) during fasting in Ramadan.
✦ Additional Note: Repentance Required
◈ Masturbation is a ḥarām (prohibited) act in Islam.
◈ Therefore, along with making up the fast, the person must:
✔ Sincerely repent to Allah ﷻ
✔ Resolve not to repeat the sin
✔ Increase in acts of righteousness and self-restraint
✔ Conclusion:
Act | Ruling on Fast | Qadha Required | Kaffarah Required |

❀ Summary:
If a fasting person commits masturbation and ejaculates, their fast is nullified, and they must make up that day’s fast. However, no kaffārah is required, but repentance is obligatory due to the sinful nature of the act.
