❀ The Impact of False Testimony on Fasting: Does It Break the Fast?
Source: Fatāwā Arkan-e-Islam
✦ What Is False Testimony?
False testimony is counted among the major sins (kabā’ir) in Islam. It refers to:
◈ Testifying about something one has no knowledge of.
◈ Deliberately giving a statement that contradicts the truth.
This act is severely condemned in Islam because it not only corrupts justice but also leads to moral decay and societal disorder.
✦ Does False Testimony Break the Fast?
✔ No, giving false testimony does not invalidate the fast.
✘ However, it does reduce the reward of the fast.
The fast technically remains valid, but its spiritual essence and purpose are harmed, as the true goal of fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink, but to avoid all forms of sin and disobedience.
❀ Conclusion:
While the fast is not nullified by false testimony, the person who engages in such a sin undermines the moral and spiritual objective of fasting, which is to develop Taqwa and purify the soul.
