Divine Revelation vs. Philosophical Misguidance in Modern Times

Philosophical Misguidance and the Guidance of Divine Revelation
Written by: Azeem ur Rahman Usmani

◈ Philosophical Ideology: Reality or a Dream?

Certain philosophers around the world have proposed the notion that we are all merely dreaming, and that reality itself has no existence. Those who embraced this idea began committing good and bad deeds alike without hesitation, considering them part of a dream.

◈ The Philosophy of Aghori Tribes: Abolishing the Distinction Between Purity and Impurity

The Aghori tribes of India devised a belief that everything in the universe is pure in its essence and that the concepts of impurity and cleanliness have no real basis. Following this ideology, they made it a routine to consume all forms of filth, including human waste. This is why these tribes feel no shame even in consuming decayed corpses and sewage matter.

◈ Doctrines of the “Civilized” World: Rejection of Human Nature

Some philosophers from the so-called civilized world reduced the human being to nothing more than an animal and thus considered moral restrictions unnecessary:

Freedom from Clothing: They declared the covering of the body as unnatural and chose to abandon it, giving rise to "nude beaches."
Desanctification of Relationships: Sexual relations within blood relations were seen as a human construct and were labeled as "incest relationships."
Homosexuality: Same-gender relations were declared natural, and the institution of marriage was deemed unnecessary.

◈ Misguidance of the Human Mind and the Light of Divine Revelation

Such philosophies clearly demonstrate that if human beings are not bound by divine guidance, they can fall into the depths of deviation in the name of intellect and nature.

Natural Demands and Divine Instructions: Keeping in view the true requirements of human nature, the Creator has provided revelation to guide man on a path of balance and moderation.

Extremism in Food: At times, humans have deemed the consumption of wild animals’ flesh and blood as lawful, while at other times they have completely forbidden meat altogether.

Extremism in Sexual Matters: Sometimes, in moral abandonment, all limits were crossed; at other times, through monasticism, even marriage was considered a crime.

Punishment for Crimes: In some eras, crimes were met with brutal punishments, such as skinning people alive; in others, murderers were treated as psychological patients and spared from punishment.

◈ The Establishment of Moderation Through Revelation

In all such matters, Allah ﷻ, through divine revelation, has prescribed a balanced path that is free from extremism and misguidance. These revealed instructions are a great blessing for all of humanity, keeping us safe from deviation and firmly on the path of truth.

Alḥamdulillāh.
