excerpt from Shaykh Mubashar Ahmad Rabbani’s book “Ahkām wa Masā’il – In the Light of the Qur’an and Sunnah”:
Is it authentically reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek forgiveness 70 or 100 times before concluding every gathering? And is it permissible for someone to recite istighfār during the Friday khuṭbah? Please clarify.

(O my Lord! Forgive me and accept my repentance. Indeed, You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Merciful).”
