❖ Question
Did the Prophet ﷺ appoint a caller (munādī) to gather the Companions (رضي الله عنهم) and then lead the funeral prayer in absentia (ṣalāt al-janāzah al-ghāʾib)?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
When the Najāshī (the King of Abyssinia) passed away, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Your brother Najāshī has died, so perform his funeral prayer."
Thereafter, the Prophet ﷺ led the Companions in ṣalāt al-janāzah in absentia for Najāshī.
