Fatwa by: Shaykh Ibn Jibreen (حفظه الله)
Question:
Sometimes during Salah, I forget whether I have recited Sūrah al-Fātiḥah or not. In such cases, I repeat Sūrah al-Fātiḥah. Is this practice correct, or should I perform sajdat al-sahw?
Answer:
Some people experience frequent doubts during Salah, causing uncertainty in recitation or tashahhud. The remedy for this is to offer the prayer with complete focus and presence of mind so that such doubts and whispers are minimized.
If, however, doubt still prevails, and recitation is usually part of one’s prayer routine, repeating the recitation in such a situation is disliked (makrūh). However, if one repeats it as a precaution, sajdat al-sahw is not required.
And Allah knows best.
