Dayouthiyyah and Immodesty: A Grave Threat to Family Honor in Islam

Societal Dayouthiyyah and Immodesty: A Dangerous Tragedy

By: Qārī Usāmah bin ʿAbd al-Salām

The greatest and most widespread sin in our society today is dayouthiyyah (lack of protective jealousy) and immodesty. This poison has hollowed out homes, destroyed honor, and pushed generations to the brink of ruin.

Today, it has become normal for non-maḥrams to freely enter homes.
Shameless clothing has buried modesty and ḥayā’.
Frauds, tricksters, and deceivers are easily allowed access to families.

Yet Islām did not even permit a brother-in-law (dewar) to enter the private quarters of a woman.

Now the situation has worsened to the extent that:

◈ Men themselves enthusiastically upload the photos and videos of their wives, daughters, and sisters on TikTok and other social media.
◈ Household functions, dances, makeup displays, and scenes of unveiled women are made public.

This is nothing less than the death of honor and modesty. It is dayouthiyyah, upon which the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ invoked laʿnah (curse).

❌ Social Harms of Dayouthiyyah and Immodesty ❌

➊ Peace within homes is lost; love turns into suspicion.
➋ Divorces increase and children are ruined.
➌ Youth move toward fornication and corruption.
➍ Honor and modesty disappear.
➎ Crimes and illicit relationships become widespread.
➏ Above all, the wrath and punishment of Allāh descend.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

“Lā yadkhulu al-jannata dayyūth.”
(Musnad Aḥmad 5669)
“Dayyūth (one who has no ghayrah for his family) will not enter Paradise.”

Clear Guidelines for Women

Clothing: Islamic clothing should be loose and not reveal the body’s shape.
Ḥijāb: The Qur’an commands women to conceal their adornment and to draw their veils over their bosoms (al-Nūr: 31).
Social Media: Uploading photos and videos on TikTok and Instagram is not ḥijāb—it is fitnah.

If a man himself uploads the unveiled pictures of his women, it is a clear sign of his deadened honor and ghayrah.

Those who claim “ḥijāb is of the heart” are deceived by Shayṭān.

📌 Conclusion

This bitter reality is that both religious and non-religious people are guilty of this crime.

If homes are to be preserved as fortresses of honor, then women must embrace modest dress and ḥijāb, while men must awaken their ghayrah.

On the doors of every home, the first signboard should read:

👉 “No Entry for Non-Maḥrams.”
👉 “The honor of wife, daughter, and sister is not for TikTok, but a trust from Allāh.”
