What are the Qur’anic and Hadith-based treatments for magic or the evil eye?
According to Islamic teachings, the treatment for magic (sihr) and the evil eye (‘ayn) is established through verses of the Qur’an and authentic Prophetic supplications (du‘as). These are spiritual remedies rooted in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
① Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas (Al-Mu‘awwidhatayn):
The Prophet ﷺ instructed the recitation of these Surahs for protection and cure from magic and other spiritual harms.
→ Reciting them three times daily is highly effective.
✔ Hadith:
Aisha (رضي الله عنها) said that when the Prophet ﷺ was ill, he would recite these Surahs, blow into his hands, and wipe his body.
(Sahih Bukhari: 5748)
② Ayat al-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah: 255):
Reciting Ayat al-Kursi morning and evening provides protection against the effects of magic.
③ Recitation of Surah Al-Baqarah:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for it protects from magic."
(Sahih Muslim)
① Ruqyah (Healing Supplication):
The Prophet ﷺ taught the following du‘a for protection from the evil eye:
"أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ"
“I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil, poisonous creature, and harmful eye.”
(Sahih Bukhari: 3371)
→ When reciting directly upon someone, replace "أَعُوذُ" with "أُعِيذُك" (I seek protection for you).
② Using Water from the Wudu of the One Who Caused the Evil Eye:
According to the Sunnah, if someone is afflicted by the evil eye, water from the ablution (wudu) of the person who caused it should be poured over the afflicted.
✔ Hadith:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"If someone is afflicted with the evil eye, ask the person who caused it to perform wudu, then pour the water over the afflicted one."
(Sunan Abi Dawud: 3880)
◈ For Magic:
Recite Surah Al-Falaq, Surah An-Naas, Ayat al-Kursi, and Surah Al-Baqarah.
These Qur’anic recitations offer protection and healing by Allah’s permission.
◈ For Evil Eye:
