The people of Jahiliyyah (ignorance) would consider anything that was unfamiliar or strange to them as false. Allah Almighty refuted this erroneous belief in the following verse:
"Then why were there not among the generations before you those of enduring discrimination, forbidding corruption on earth, except a few of those We saved from among them? But those who wronged pursued what luxury they were given, and they were criminals."
[Surah Hud, 11:116]
In this verse, Allah warns that the previous nations did not have enough wise and insightful people who would prevent corruption on earth. However, He clarifies that there were a few such people, but they were very few in number, and Allah saved them from destruction.
This verse highlights how the majority of people from past generations, engrossed in the luxuries of life, followed only what was familiar to them and rejected anything new or foreign. As a result, they fell into sin and corruption. However, Allah praises the few righteous individuals who opposed this trend and saved them from ruin.
