Conditions for Sharia-Compliant Ruqyah

Question 301:
What are the conditions for Sharia-compliant ruqyah?

Answer:
Imam Ibn Hajar (رحمه الله) outlined three conditions for a valid Sharia-compliant ruqyah:

  1. It should be based on the words of Allah or His names and attributes.
  2. It should be in Arabic or in any language whose meaning is well understood.
  3. The belief should be that the effect of the ruqyah is not inherent, but rather, it is Allah who grants it effect.
Imam Ibn al-Tin (رحمه الله) added that ruqyah using protective verses (Mu'awwidhat) and Allah’s names is a form of spiritual healing.

Non-Sharia-Compliant Ruqyah​

Question 302:
Are there forms of ruqyah that are not Sharia-compliant?

Answer:
Shaykh al-Islam (رحمه الله) stated that seeking assistance from unintelligible phrases or texts against devils is not permitted. Additionally, practices by deceitful individuals involving names, parental names, effects, or opening books to "reveal" matters are all considered non-Sharia-compliant ruqyah.

Abandoning the Quran​

Question 303:
What are the forms of abandoning the Quran?

Answer: There are several ways in which a person may abandon the Quran:

  1. Neglecting to listen to it with faith and inclination.
  2. Reading and believing in it but failing to act upon its commands or avoid its prohibitions.
  3. Not accepting it as the judge in the principles of religion or in decisions.
  4. Failing to understand or reflect upon its meanings.
  5. Not seeking healing from it for diseases of the heart and spiritual remedies.

Will Iblis Enter Hell?​

Question 304:
Will Iblis enter Hell?

Answer:
On the Day of Judgment, Iblis will say:

"And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, 'Indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; blame yourselves. I cannot come to your aid, nor can you come to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me with Allah before. Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment.'"

[Surah Ibrahim, 14:22]

This verse highlights the ultimate fate of Iblis.

Precautions Against Harm from Jinn​

Question 305:
What do you advise to protect oneself from the touch of jinn?

Answer:
  1. Strive to remain in a state of wudu day and night, renewing it whenever it breaks.
  2. Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah at all times.
  3. Avoid music, and protect your eyes, tongue, and limbs. Speak only good or remain silent.
  4. Avoid urinating or defecating in dark places, holes, or places associated with jinn; mention Allah before pouring hot water.
  5. Do not throw heavy objects without invoking Allah.
  6. Keep children indoors at sunset.
  7. Avoid deserted or dark places at night and recite Surah Al-Baqarah every three days.
  8. Keep your home free of idols, pictures, and dogs.

Deceptive Practices​

Question 306:
Who are the deceitful practitioners (dajjal)?

Answer:
Those who practice the following are considered deceitful:
  1. Imparting effects of clothing.
  2. Astrology.
  3. Palm reading.
  4. Syriac techniques.
  5. Magnetic hypnosis.
  6. Opening books (for divination).
  7. Reading in cups.

Treating a Person Affected by Jinn​

Question 307:
Is there evidence from the Prophet (ﷺ) for treating someone affected by jinn?

Answer:
Yes, it is narrated from Uthman ibn Abi al-As (رضي الله عنه) that when the Prophet (ﷺ) appointed him over Ta’if, he experienced a disturbance in his prayer. He traveled to the Prophet (ﷺ) to seek advice. The Prophet (ﷺ) explained:

"This is a devil. Come closer," and the Prophet (ﷺ) struck his chest, spat into his mouth, and said, "Leave, O enemy of Allah!" This was done three times, and Uthman (رضي الله عنه) said that he never experienced the issue again.

[Sunan Ibn Majah, Kitab al-Tibb, Hadith No. 46]

Al-Busiri authenticated this narration, and Imam Hakim confirmed it as having a sound chain.

Causes of Jinn Inflicting Harm on Humans​

Question 308:
What are the causes for jinn to harm humans?

Answer:
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) stated that reasons include:
  1. Desire and lust, as in cases where there may be attachment or even intermingling between jinn and humans.
  2. Anger or revenge, especially if a human unintentionally harms them by stepping on or pouring hot water on them.
  3. Playfulness or malice by mischievous individuals.

What Should I Say When I Admire Something?​

Question 309:
What should one say when admiring something?

Answer:
One should say:

"Bismillah, ma sha Allah, Allahumma barik lahu, Allahumma zidhu."

"In the name of Allah, what Allah has willed. O Allah, bless it for him and increase it."

Signs of Magic​

Question 310:
What are the signs of being affected by magic?

Answer:
Signs include frequent lack of sleep or excessive sleep, profuse sweating, frequent urination, weakened sexual desire, and numbness in parts of the body or the entire body.
