Condemnation of Unrequested Testimony in Islam

Condemnation of Giving Testimony Without Being Asked

By: Imrān Ayyūb Lāhorī

ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn (RA)
reported:
The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:

“The best among you are those of my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. After that, there will come people:

‘Yashhadūna wa lā yustaḥshadūn’
‘They will give testimony though they were not asked to testify.’

They will be treacherous and not trustworthy, they will make vows but not fulfill them, and obesity will become prevalent among them.”
[al-Bukhārī: 2428, Kitāb al-Riqāq: Bāb mā yuḥdhiru min zuhrat al-dunyā wa-al-tanāfus fīhā]

📌 This ḥadīth highlights the condemnation of unnecessary testimony, a sign of dishonesty, untrustworthiness, and decline of moral values in later generations.
