Comparative Study of Christianity and Islam

Adapted from the book Islam-e-Mustafa (علیہ الصلاۃ والسلام) by Abu Hamzah Abdul Khaliq Siddiqi

❖ Status of Prophets in Islam vs. Christianity

The noble Prophets (علیہم السلام) are great, pure, and righteous beings whom Allah sends for guidance and spiritual upliftment. He bestows upon them noble qualities befitting their status and declares their sanctity and honor. Even the slightest disrespect towards their noble personality is considered disbelief. So, how deplorable is it that the Bible of Christianity accuses them of being thieves, adulterers, drunkards, and idol worshippers — العياذ بالله!

In the following lines, we shall examine such biblical incidents that disgrace these noble Prophets (علیہم السلام) and contrast them with Islamic philosophy to conduct a comparative study between Christian and Islamic teachings. All references are from the Holy Bible (Revised Version 2000) published by the Pakistan Bible Society, Lahore. Christianity, which fails to preserve the dignity of Prophets, cannot teach morality to the world.

① Regret Attributed to God

Bible:
  • Genesis 6:5-6: God regretted creating man.
  • 1 Samuel 15:11 & 35: God regretted making Saul king.

Islam:
Such verses falsely attribute regret and sorrow to Allah, implying He is fallible. In contrast, the Qur'an states:

(Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:26)

This verse establishes that Allah is the Sovereign King, who gives and takes kingship at will, and bestows honor or disgrace as He wills. He is All-Powerful and none can hinder His will.

② Claim of God's Weakness

Bible:
  • Judges 1:19: The Lord could not drive out valley inhabitants because they had iron chariots.

Islam:
Allah is Almighty and not subject to physical constraints. The incident of Ashab al-Feel (People of the Elephant) is a testament to His might:

(Surah Al-Feel 105:1-5)

Tiny birds destroyed a powerful army using stones of baked clay. This shows that Allah’s strength surpasses all.

③ Disrespect to Adam and Hawwa (علیہما السلام)

Bible:
  • Genesis 2:25: “Adam and his wife were both naked and felt no shame.”

Islam:
The Qur'an presents a far more respectful narrative, detailing how Shaytan misled them and they, upon disobedience, lost their clothing and sought to cover themselves:

(Surah Al-A'raf 7:19–22)

Prophet Nuh (علیہ السلام) Drinking Wine

Bible:
  • Genesis 9:20-25: Nuh planted a vineyard, drank wine, became drunk, and was found naked by his son.

Islam:
Such stories are outright fabrications. The Qur'an declares:

(Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:90–91)

Alcohol is an abomination and a work of Shaytan.

⑤ Prophet Haroon (علیہ السلام) Accused of Idolatry

Bible:
  • Exodus 32:1-6: Haroon allegedly made a golden calf and declared it as god.

Islam:
This is a gross misrepresentation. Islam narrates that the Samiri misled the people during Musa’s absence:
(Surah Al-A'raf 7:148–151)

⑥ Prophet Yaqub (علیہ السلام) Accused of Marrying Two Sisters

Bible:
  • Genesis 29:15–30: Yaqub married both Leah and Rachel.

Islam:
Marrying two sisters simultaneously is prohibited:

(Surah An-Nisa 4:23)

Even the Bible (Leviticus 18:18) prohibits this.

⑦ Accusation of Incest with Prophet Yaqub’s Wife

Bible:
  • Genesis 35:22: Reuben had relations with his father's concubine.
Islam:
Such allegations are slanderous and false. The Qur'an maintains the purity of Prophets and their households.

Prophet Dawood (علیہ السلام) Accused of Adultery

Bible:
  • 2 Samuel 11:2–5: Dawood commits adultery with Bathsheba.

Islam:
The Qur'an portrays Dawood as a righteous and repentant Prophet:

(Surah Sad 38:21–25)

⑨ Prophet Sulaiman’s (علیہ السلام) Mother Slandered

Bible:
  • 2 Samuel 12:24, Matthew 1:6: Bathsheba is described as an adulteress.

Islam:
Qur'an affirms purity in lineage:

(Surah An-Nur 24:26)

⑩ Dishonoring Prophet Dawood in Old Age

Bible:
  • 1 Kings 1:1–4: A young girl is brought to warm the aging Dawood.

Islam:
Such stories are fabricated and disrespectful. Renowned scholars like Ibn Hazm and Ibn Kathir have rejected these accounts as Israeli traditions.

⑪ Indecent Bridal Dowry of Prophet Dawood

Bible:
  • 1 Samuel 18:25–27: Dawood pays a dowry of 200 foreskins.

Islam:
Islam rejects indecent mahr. The concept of dowry in Islam is dignified and rational.

⑫ Disrespect of Prophet Isa’s (علیہ السلام) Lineage

Bible:
  • Matthew 1:1–16, Luke 3:23–38: Includes numerous adulterers and prostitutes in Isa’s lineage.
Islam:
Isa (علیہ السلام) is described as a noble Prophet, miraculously born without a father:

(Surah At-Tahrim 66:12)

⑬ Accusation Against the Apostle Peter (Hawari)

Bible:
  • Matthew 16:21–23: Jesus calls Peter “Satan.”
  • Matthew 26:57–74: Peter denies knowing Jesus and curses him.

Islam:
Islam presents Hawariyun as true supporters of Prophet Isa:

(Surah As-Saff 61:14)

❖ Conclusion:

With divine help, the essential distinctions between the pristine teachings of Islam and the self-fabricated accounts of Christianity have been clarified. Islam upholds the dignity, purity, and honor of all Prophets, while the Bible contains narratives that malign them.
