What are some common mistakes made by spiritual healers (Muʿālijeen)?
Here are several common errors committed by spiritual healers and the resulting harms:
❶ Reciting the Qur’an upon a woman without a maḥram present.
❷ Writing Qur’anic verses on the patient’s body, such as inscribing a letter on the patient's forehead or writing كهيعص in the form of separate letters on the fingers.
❸ Writing Qur’anic verses on a piece of cloth and then burning it for the patient to inhale.
❹ Leaving the incense apparatus open during the treatment session.
❺ Having the patient raise and lower their hand for unveiling or detection (kashf)—with the claim that if something is attached to them, it will be lifted or dropped, etc.
❻ Making statements regarding straw or grass sticks, such as: “Hold this” or “Let go of that.”
❼ Engaging in long conversations with jinns that yield no benefit whatsoever.
