Source: Fatāwā ʿUlamāʾ-e-Ahl-e-Ḥadīth, Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Volume 1
(Sūrat al-Aḥzāb: 56)
"Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and salute him with all respect."
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 384)
"Whoever sends one salutation upon me, Allah sends ten blessings upon him in return."
Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (رضي الله عنه) narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ said that abundant Durūd will suffice you of your sorrows and cause forgiveness of your sins.
(Sunan al-Tirmidhī: 2457; authenticated by al-Albānī)
Thus, organizing such ritualistic group sessions is considered a religious innovation (Bidʿah).
The Prophet ﷺ stated:
"Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance leads to the Fire."
(Authentic Hadith)
Such acts divert from the authentic Sunnah and introduce unwarranted practices into Islam.
✘ Organizing collective Durūd gatherings as a ritual act is not from the Sunnah, and thus, it is considered an innovation.
❖ Question:
What is the Islamic ruling on sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ in collective gatherings?❖ Answer:
Sending salutations (Durūd) upon the Noble Prophet ﷺ is among the most virtuous deeds. Allah ﷻ Himself has commanded it, and He praises those who engage in it.❖ Quranic Command:
❝ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ ۚ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًۭا ❞(Sūrat al-Aḥzāb: 56)
"Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and salute him with all respect."
❖ Prophetic Sayings:
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 384)
"Whoever sends one salutation upon me, Allah sends ten blessings upon him in return."
Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (رضي الله عنه) narrated:
The Prophet ﷺ said that abundant Durūd will suffice you of your sorrows and cause forgiveness of your sins.
(Sunan al-Tirmidhī: 2457; authenticated by al-Albānī)
❖ Collective Durūd Gatherings: An Innovation (Bidʿah)
While sending Durūd is an established Sunnah, there is no authentic evidence from the Prophet ﷺ, his companions, or the early generations that collective gatherings specifically for reciting Durūd were ever conducted. Thus, organizing such ritualistic group sessions is considered a religious innovation (Bidʿah).
The Prophet ﷺ stated:
"Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance leads to the Fire."
(Authentic Hadith)
❖ Clarification:
Innovations in religious matters, especially in worship, are strongly condemned in Ḥadīth. Creating a fixed group practice of Durūd gatherings often fosters attachment to specific personalities rather than sincere remembrance of Allah and His Messenger.Such acts divert from the authentic Sunnah and introduce unwarranted practices into Islam.
❖ Conclusion:
✔ Sending Durūd individually and regularly is rewardable.✘ Organizing collective Durūd gatherings as a ritual act is not from the Sunnah, and thus, it is considered an innovation.
