Claiming Abrogation Without Evidence is Rejected

Source: Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri

◈ Question:

Some people declare narrations to be nāsikh and mansūkh without evidence. What is the ruling on this?

◈ Answer:

The issue of naskh (abrogation) is very delicate and complex. Declaring any authentic hadith or Sunnah as abrogated requires clear evidence. It is not permissible to consider any Sunnah abrogated without proof.

❀ Statement of the Scholars

Hafiz al-Dhahabī رحمه الله (748 AH):
“Established Sunnahs cannot be rejected based on mere claims.”
(سير أعلام النبلاء: 4/528)

✅ Conclusion:
Abrogation (naskh) in Sharīʿah is a matter that requires strong evidence. Mere claims or assumptions are not sufficient to declare any Sunnah as abrogated.
