Can There Be Human Beings with Satanic Traits?

Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha حفظ اللہ

Are there humans who possess satanic characteristics?

Answer:

Yes!
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Salam that he said: Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman رضی اللہ عنہ said: I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, we were in a state of evil, and Allah brought us this good (i.e., Islam). Will there be evil after this good?” He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said, “Yes.” I asked, “Will there be good after that evil?” He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said, “Yes, but it will be tainted.” I asked, “How so?” He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:

『يكون بعدي أئمه لا يهتدون بهداي ولا يستنون بسنتي، وسيقوم فيهم رجال قلوبهم قلوب الشياطين فى جثمان إنس』

“There will be leaders after me who will not be guided by my guidance nor will they adopt my Sunnah. There will be men among them whose hearts are the hearts of devils in human bodies.” Hudhayfah رضی اللہ عنہ said: I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! What should I do if I live to see that time?” He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: “Listen to the ruler and obey him, even if he strikes your back and takes your wealth—listen and obey.”
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith no. 3435]

Iblis had also said:

『قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ‎ ﴿١٦﴾』

“He said: Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path.”
[Al-A’raf: 16]

Meaning, I will sit in their way to prevent them from the straight path and adorn falsehood for them so that they perish like me. The straight path is the path to Paradise.

『مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ』 – from the front, meaning the world.
『وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ』 – from behind them.
『وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ』 – from their good deeds.
『وَعَن شَمَائِلِهِمْ ۖ』 – from their evil deeds, meaning they will follow their desires because Shaytan has beautified them.
『ولا تجد اكثرهم شٰكرين』 – “You will not find most of them grateful,” meaning you will not find them to be people of Tawheed, obedience, and gratitude.

Sayyiduna Ibn ʿAbbas رضی اللہ عنہما said that Shaytan did not say “from above them” because he knew that above them is Allah. Qatadah رحمہ اللہ said: “O son of Adam! Shaytan will come to you from every direction except from above because he cannot come between you and the mercy of Allah.”
