Can One Recite Adhkar (Supplications) Without Wudu?

Hadith of Aisha (رضي الله عنها):

Aisha (رضي الله عنها) narrated:
"The Prophet (ﷺ) used to remember Allah at all times."
(Reported by all major Hadith scholars except Al-Bukhari and An-Nasa’i. Sahih Muslim: 373)

Key Points & Rulings:

The remembrance (Dhikr) of Allah is essential and should be done in all permissible conditions.

  • The Prophet (ﷺ) would engage in Dhikr at all appropriate times.
  • However, certain situations are exceptions, such as while relieving oneself or being in a state of complete nakedness.
  • If a person is in a state of intoxication, Dhikr should also be avoided.

Reciting supplications (Dua) and engaging in Adhkar without Wudu is permissible.

  • If one wishes to make Dhikr, recite general supplications, or ask for Allah’s help while in a state of minor impurity, there is no harm in doing so.
