Can Multiple Supplications Be Recited in Rukū‘ and Sujūd?

Permissibility of Reciting Multiple Supplications in Rukū‘ and Sujūd
Based on: Fatawa of the Scholars of Hadith, Kitab al-Salah, Vol. 1

❖ Question

Is it necessary to recite only one supplication in Rukū‘ and Sujūd, or is it permissible to recite multiple supplications?

❖ Answer

Reciting even one prescribed supplication in Rukū‘ or Sujūd is sufficient for fulfilling the obligation of that posture.
However, if a person wishes to recite two, three, or more supplications, then this is also permissible.

❖ Recommended Practice

The better and more complete way is to:

Alternate between the different authentic supplications and remembrances reported from the Prophet ﷺ.
✔ Recite different Du‘as at different times in Rukū‘ and Sujūd.
✔ This allows a person to implement all established Sunnah supplications, and it helps to enhance humility and concentration (khushū‘) in the prayer.

❖ Summary

✔ It is permissible to recite more than one Du‘a in Rukū‘ and Sujūd.
✔ The minimum obligation is fulfilled with even a single prescribed Dhikr.
Alternating between Sunnah Du‘as is the best practice, promoting spiritual depth and full adherence to the Sunnah.
