❖ Question:
Can a woman go for Hajj with a close female relative without being accompanied by her husband or any other Mahram male relative?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
In the light of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, and other reliable books of ḥadīth, it becomes abundantly clear that:
❀ It is not permissible for a woman to travel without her husband or a Mahram male relative.
The evidence for this ruling is derived from Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb Jazāʾ aṣ-Ṣayd, Bāb Ḥajj an-Nisāʾ.
Matter of Personal Satisfaction or Inner Peace
Some individuals attempt to find concessions in this matter based on personal reassurance or satisfaction. However, the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ in this regard is sufficient:
«دَعْ مَا یُرِیْبُکَ اِلٰی مَا لاَ یُرِیْبُکَ»
(Mishkāt, Kitāb al-Buyūʿ, Bāb al-Kasb wa Ṭalab al-Ḥalāl, al-Faṣl ath-Thānī)
“Leave that which makes you doubtful for that which does not make you doubtful.”
Advice of the Scholars
Guidance regarding this issue has also been expressed poetically:
فَـــــاقْــــدُرْ فِــــعَــــالَ نَـــبِــیّــــکـا
وَاتْــــرُکْ شِــــقَــــاقَ مَـــــقُـــوْلِـہٖ
وَانْبِـــذْ حَـــدِیْــــــثَ شُـــکُـــوْکِــکَا
حَـــیْـــــثُ الــــــرَدِّی لِـــفُـــضُــوْلِـہٖ
Translation:
“Honor the actions of your Prophet ﷺ, avoid opposing his teachings, discard your doubts and uncertainties, for they are nothing but useless talk.”
Conclusion
Hādhā mā ʿindī, wallāhu aʿlam biṣ-ṣawāb.
