Khula means that a woman annuls and terminates the marriage contract established by her guardian. After Khul‘, she returns to her pre-marital status, and therefore, she may remarry her former husband at any time.
If she intends to marry someone else, she must observe a waiting period (‘iddah) of one menstrual cycle.
Imam Maymun bin Mihran رحمه الله said:
إذا قبل منها زوجها الفدية ثم خطبها بعد ذلك قال: يتزوجها ويسمي لها مهرا جديدا
“If the husband accepts the compensation (in Khul‘) and later proposes marriage again, it was said: he may marry her with a new dowry.”
