Ruling on Fasting for a Woman Whose Menstruation Has Ended but Has Not Yet Seen the White Discharge
Source:
This article is derived from the book 500 Questions & Answers for Women, a compilation of Fatawa by the Scholars of the Haramain. Translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.
❖ Question:
If a woman, during the final days of her menstruation, notices that the bleeding has stopped but does not see any blood stains nor the usual white discharge that signals purity (ṭuhr), should she begin fasting that day?
❖ Answer:
If the woman is of the type whose menstruation usually ends without the appearance of the white discharge,
then she should begin fasting, as this is her known habit and indicates that she has become pure.
However, if her regular habit is to observe the white discharge as a sign of the end of menstruation,
then she must wait until she sees it before starting to fast.
