Fatwa by: Former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Shaykh Ibn Baz (رحمه الله)
Question:
A woman's husband is employed and earns a salary of four thousand riyals but is indebted with a debt of thirty thousand riyals. Can she give him her zakat?
Answer:
According to the most correct view of the scholars, based on general evidence, it is permissible for a woman to give her zakat, whether from her jewelry or other zakatable assets, to her poor or indebted husband if he is unable to repay his debts. One of the proofs for this is Allah’s statement:
"Indeed, the zakat is only for the poor and the needy..."
[Surah At-Tawbah: 60]
Thus, there is no issue if the wife gives her zakat to her husband in this case.
And Allah knows best.
