Can a menstruating woman go to the ʿEidgah?
Yes, a menstruating woman can go to the ʿEidgah. In fact, the ḥadīth emphasizes it.
1.
((الحيض يخرجن، فيكن خلف الناس، يكبرن مع الناس))
“Menstruating women used to come out and sit behind the people, saying the takbīr with them.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 890)
2.
((فيكن خلف الناس، فيكبرن بتكبيرهم، ويدعون بدعائهم، يرجون بركة ذلك اليوم، وطهرته))
“They would be behind the people, saying the takbīr along with them, supplicating with their supplications, hoping for the blessings and purity of that day.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 971)
From these narrations, it is clear that a menstruating woman may go to the ʿEidgah. However, she should:
✔ Be covered in her jilbāb (chador),
✔ Lower her gaze like a noble woman,
✔ Engage in dhikr of Allah,
✔ Go with the permission of her husband or guardian.
Nāfiʿ رحمه الله reported:
((كان عبد الله بن عمر يخرج إلى العيدين من استطاع من أهله))
“ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما used to take his family members to the two ʿEids.”
(Muṣannaf Ibn Abī Shaybah 2/191 – with an authentic chain)
A menstruating woman is allowed and even encouraged to go to the ʿEidgah, provided she observes Sharʿi hijāb and proper decorum. She does not join the prayer but participates in takbīr, duʿā, and the blessings of the gathering.
