Can Ṭawāf and Saʿī Be Performed on Separate Days During ʿUmrah?

❖ Ruling on Performing Ṭawāf and Saʿī on Separate Days During ʿUmrah ❖
Fatwa by: Fadhīlat al-Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakīl Nāṣir ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ Question:

Can a person performing ʿUmrah separate the Ṭawāf (circumambulation of the Kaʿbah) and Saʿī (walking between Ṣafā and Marwah) over two different days, or must they be performed consecutively?

❖ Answer:

Ideally, Ṭawāf and Saʿī should be performed consecutively—one after the other—without an extended break. This is the preferred and proper way of performing ʿUmrah.

However, if someone separates the two acts, then:

There is no harm, and the ʿUmrah remains valid.
✔ For example, if a person completes Ṭawāf and the time for prayer arrives, they may pause for ṣalāh and then proceed with Saʿī afterward.
✔ Likewise, if one begins Saʿī and the congregational prayer begins, they may perform the prayer and then resume their Saʿī.

❖ Summary Ruling:

🔹 It is not obligatory for Ṭawāf and Saʿī to be performed immediately one after the other.
🔹 But one should avoid delaying Saʿī without a valid reason to prevent confusion or doubts about the correctness of the rituals.
🔹 Performing them in succession is better, but not a strict condition for the validity of ʿUmrah.
