Burial of Hair and Nails After Cutting

This content is derived from the book "500 Questions and Answers for Women," which is based on the fatwas of the scholars of the Haramain. The book has been translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.

Question:

I have observed some people, especially women, burying their nails and hair after cutting them, believing that leaving them in the open is sinful. How accurate is this belief?

Answer:

Some scholars have stated that burying hair and nails is preferable. This practice is also reported from certain Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them). However, as for the belief that leaving them in the open or discarding them somewhere results in sin, this is not correct.
