❖ Question

A person swore an oath that he would abandon ignorant customs practiced in weddings, but later he performed those customs. What is the ruling?

❖ Answer

He has broken his oath, and the expiation of an oath becomes obligatory upon him. He should fulfil that which is recommended (mustahabb) to uphold.

❀ The Statement of Allah Almighty:

(Sūrah al-Mā’idah: 89)

“Guard your (lawful) oaths. Thus does Allah make His verses clear to you, so that you may be grateful.”
