What do you say regarding the Ḥawḍ al-Kawthar?
Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah are unanimously agreed upon the belief that the Prophet ﷺ has been granted the Ḥawḍ (Pond), and it is a reality. Its proof is established in authentic and mutawātir aḥādīth. The Khawārij and some Muʿtazilah denied it.
In fact, it will be water from Paradise, from which the believers will be honored. Its distance will be that of a month’s journey. Its water will be whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Its fragrance will be more pleasant than musk. Its drinking vessels will be of gold and silver, as numerous as the stars in the sky. Whoever drinks from it will never feel thirst again.
Allah ﷻ will also grant the Prophet ﷺ a pond in Paradise called al-Kawthar. From it, only the believers will drink, while the innovators and oppressors will rush towards it but will be prevented. Whoever denies it will be deprived of it, inshā’Allāh.
Allah ﷻ says:
إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ
(Sūrah al-Kawthar: 1)
“Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar.”
✔ Imam Abul-ʿAbbās al-Qurṭubī رحمه الله (656 AH):
“It is obligatory upon every accountable person to know and affirm that Allah ﷻ has specifically honored His Prophet ﷺ with al-Kawthar, which is the Ḥawḍ explicitly mentioned by name, with its description, its drink, and its vessels, in numerous authentic and well-known aḥādīth. These aḥādīth, taken collectively, yield definitive and mutawātir certainty. More than thirty Companions narrated it, over twenty of whom are in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, and the rest in other authentic sources. Then, an equal number of Tābiʿīn narrated it from them. The Salaf and Ahl al-Sunnah among the later generations are unanimously agreed upon it. However, a group of innovators denied it, diverted it from its apparent meaning, and indulged in far-fetched interpretations without any intellectual or textual necessity. By doing so, they opposed the consensus of the Salaf and departed from the path of the Imams of the later generations.”
(المفهم: 6/90)
Conclusion:
Belief in the Ḥawḍ al-Kawthar is an established and binding creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah. Its proof is found in the Qur’an, mutawātir aḥādīth, and the consensus of the scholars. Denial of it is the way of innovators and is contrary to the consensus of the Ummah.
