Does backbiting nullify one's wudūʾ and ṣalāh, requiring them to be repeated?
A narration from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنه states:
“Two men offered Ẓuhr or ʿAṣr prayer while fasting. After the prayer, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘Repeat your wudūʾ and prayer, but keep your fasts. Make up the fast on another day.’
They asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, why?’
He ﷺ replied: ‘Because you backbitten so-and-so.’”

Due to the presence of a weak and a majhūl narrator in its chain,
this narration is ḍaʿīf (weak) and mardūd (unacceptable as evidence).
It cannot be used to establish any Sharʿi ruling,
especially in critical matters such as the validity of wudūʾ and prayer.
▶ Sharʿan, backbiting is a major sin,
but it does not invalidate wudūʾ or ṣalāh,
nor does it require them to be repeated.
