◈ Text of the Narration:
Imam al-Suddi (Isma'il ibn Abdur Rahman) reports that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:“My Ummah was presented to me in their forms in the clay, just as they were presented to Adam. I was informed who would believe in me and who would disbelieve in me. When the hypocrites heard this, they mocked and said: ‘Muhammad claims to know who will believe in him and who will disbelieve from those who have not even been created yet, while he does not even know us who are with him.’ When this reached the Prophet ﷺ, he ascended the pulpit, praised Allah, and said: ‘What is the matter with some people who cast doubt on my knowledge? Ask me anything between you and the Hour, and I will inform you about it.’”
[Tafsir al-Baghawi, 1/546]
◈ Analysis of the Chain of Narration:
① Abu Tayyib Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak al-Sha’iriThis narrator is unknown (majhool). No biographical details about him are available in the books of Rijal (narrator evaluations), which renders the chain unreliable.
② Isma'il ibn Abdur Rahman al-Suddi
Although he is a trustworthy Tabi‘i, in this narration he directly reports from the Prophet ﷺ, skipping the companion (Sahabi). This makes the narration mursal (disconnected), which weakens its reliability unless supported by other strong chains—which is not the case here.
◈ Conclusion:
The narration is fabricated (false) for the following reasons:- It includes an unknown narrator, rendering the isnad weak.
- The report is mursal (missing link between the Tabi‘i and the Prophet ﷺ).
Therefore, this narration cannot be accepted as authentic and should not be used as evidence in matters of belief or practice.
