❖ Authenticity and Ruling on the Hadith:
Excerpted from: Fatāwā Rāshidiyyah, Page 97
❖ Question:
What is the authenticity of the Hadith: «أصحابي كالنجوم...الخ» ("My Companions are like stars...")?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh, ammā ba‘d:
According to the research of Shaykh al-Albānī (رحمه الله), the narration:
«أصحابي كالنجوم، بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم»
"My Companions are like stars; whomever among them you follow, you will be guided"
—is fabricated (موضوع).
❖ Evidence and Research Basis:
✔ Shaykh al-Albānī’s analysis appears correct, as he gathered and examined all chains (ṭuruq) of this narration.
Key flaws in the chains of narration:
◉ Some chains contain narrators who are:
- Matrūk (abandoned)
- Majhūl (unknown)
◉ Other chains include narrators who are:
- Kadhdhāb (liars)
- Waḍḍā‘ (fabricators)
And any Hadith whose chain includes a kadhdhāb or waḍḍā‘ is classified as fabricated (موضوع) by the scholars of Hadith.
❖ Further Reading:
For more detailed research, one should refer to Shaykh al-Albānī’s original book where he has critically analyzed this narration and its chains in depth.
