❖ Excellence of Friday Among Days
While all days belong to Allah, Friday holds a special status with numerous unique honors and distinctions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explained these in various authentic narrations.
◈ The Best Day
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:"The best day on which the sun rises is Friday."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Hadith 854]
◈ Creation of Adam عليه السلام
The Prophet ﷺ said:"On Friday, Allah created Adam, on it he was admitted into Paradise, and on it he was expelled from it."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 854]
◈ Day of Judgment
The Prophet ﷺ said:"The Hour (Day of Judgment) will not be established except on a Friday."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 854]
◈ Dignity and Awe of Friday
Due to its magnificence, even all creatures—except jinn and humans—await Friday with humility and dread of the Hour:The Prophet ﷺ said:
"There is no creature but it listens in on Friday from sunrise, fearing the Hour—except the jinn and humans."
[Sunan Abū Dāwūd: 1046 – Authentic]
Humans, despite knowing the warning of the Hour occurring on a Friday, remain heedless, while animals tremble with fear.
◈ Expiation of Sins
The Prophet ﷺ said:"The five daily prayers, one Friday to the next, and one Ramadan to the next, are expiation for the sins committed between them, so long as major sins are avoided."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 233]
◈ Protection from the Trial of the Grave
The Prophet ﷺ said:"Whoever dies on a Friday or the night preceding Friday will be protected from the trial of the grave."
[Musnad Aḥmad: 7050 – Hasan]
◈ Hour of Acceptance (Duʿā')
The Prophet ﷺ said:"There is a moment on Friday when if a Muslim prays and asks Allah for something, He will surely grant it."
He then indicated how brief this time is.
[Bukhārī: 893, Muslim: 852]
Another narration elaborates:
"Friday consists of twelve hours, among which is an hour wherein a Muslim who asks Allah for something will be granted it. Seek this hour in the last hour after ‘Asr."
[Abū Dāwūd: 1048 – Authentic]
Although scholars differ on the exact hour, believers should strive to seek Allah’s mercy throughout the day.
◈ Warning Against Neglecting Jumu‘ah
Neglecting Jumu'ah without valid reason leads to severe consequences:The Prophet ﷺ said:
"I considered ordering a man to lead people in prayer, then to burn the houses of those men who stay away from Friday prayer."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 652]
He also said:
"Let people stop neglecting Jumu'ah, or Allah will seal their hearts and they will become heedless."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 865]
