✿ Supplications Before Sleeping​


① Reciting the Three Qul Surahs and Blowing Over the Body​


The Prophet ﷺ instructed to:


❖ Gather your hands, blow into them, and recite the following three sūrahs:


Surah al-Ikhlāṣ:


Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ

Surah al-Falaq:


Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ
وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

Surah al-Nās:


Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ
مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ
مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ
📖 [Al-Nās: 1–6]


🖐 After reciting, wipe your hands over your body, beginning with the head, face, and front part of your body. Repeat three times.

② Recitation of Āyat al-Kursī​


Arabic:
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ...
📖 [Al-Baqarah: 255]


Whoever recites Āyat al-Kursī before sleeping will have a protector from Allah and no devil will come near him until morning.

③ Last Two Verses of Surah al-Baqarah (285–286)​


Reciting these two verses at bedtime suffices as protection against all harm until morning.

④ Dust Off the Bedding​


If someone leaves their bed and returns, they should brush it three times with the edge of their garment before lying down, as it may have become inhabited.


Then say:


Arabic:
بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِي...

⑤ Right Hand Under Right Cheek​


When going to sleep, place your right hand under your right cheek and say:


Arabic:
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
📚 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 6314


Also:
اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ
📚 Al-Tirmidhī: 3398; al-Ṣaḥīḥah: 2754


⑥ Comprehensive Morning and Evening Supplication​


Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ...
📚 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Tirmidhī: 3/142; Abū Dāwūd: 2763; al-Ṣaḥīḥah: 2763


This should be recited both morning and evening, and when going to bed.


⑦ Gratitude Supplication​


Arabic:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا...

⑧ Supplication for Protection and Wellness​


Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي...

⑨ Dua of al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib رضي الله عنه​


Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ...
Recite this after making full wuḍūʾ before sleep.

⑩ Supplication for Salvation from Fire​


Arabic:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَفَانِي وَآوَانِي...
📚 al-Ṣaḥīḥah: 3444


⑪ Glorification That Erases Sins​


Arabic:
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ...
Whosoever says this will have their sins forgiven, even if like the foam of the sea.

⑫ Tasbīḥ Before Sleeping​


The Prophet ﷺ instructed ʿAlī and Fāṭimah رضي الله عنهما to recite:


  • 33x سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ
  • 33x اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
  • 34x الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

⑬ Regarding Good and Bad Dreams​


If you see a good dream, thank Allah and mention it to those you love.
If you see a bad dream, seek refuge from Shayṭān and do not share it; it will not harm you.

🌅 Supplications Upon Waking​


❖ From Ḥudhayfah رضي الله عنه:​


Arabic:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا...
"All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after death, and to Him is the resurrection."
📚 Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 6324


❖ From Another Narration:​


Arabic:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَافَانِي فِي جَسَدِي...
"Praise be to Allah who granted health to my body, returned my soul, and allowed me to remember Him."
