✿ Ahadith on Placing Hands on the Chest

Hadith of Hazrat Wa’il bin Hujr (RA):

(Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1/243, Hadith 480, 714; Sahih Ibn Hibban 3/167, Hadith 1857; Musnad Ahmad 4/318, Hadith 19075; Sunan al-Nasa’i 2/126, Hadith 890; Sunan Abi Dawud with Bazl al-Majhud 4/437-438, Hadith 727 — chain authentic)

Translation:
Hazrat Wa’il bin Hujr (RA) said: “I prayed with the Prophet (ﷺ), and he placed his right hand over his left hand on his chest.”

This Hadith is fully authentic. Even Hanafi scholars have acknowledged its authenticity, including the author of Bahr al-Ra’iq, Allama Amir al-Hajj, Allama Muhammad Qaim Sindhi, and Allama Muhammad Hayat Sindhi.

Hadith of Hazrat Hulb (RA):

(Musnad Ahmad; all narrators are trustworthy, ‘Awn al-Ma‘bud 1/276)

Translation:
Hazrat Qabisah narrates from his father Hulb (RA) that he saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) place his right hand over his left hand on his chest during prayer.

Hadith of Tawoos (Tabi‘i):

(Mursal Abi Dawud, p. 6; ‘Awn al-Ma‘bud 1/275, Bab Wadh‘ al-Yumna ‘ala al-Yusra)

Translation:
Tawoos (RA) narrated: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) placed his right hand over his left hand and bound them on his chest while in prayer.”

Though this narration is Mursal, both Imam Malik (رحمه الله) and Imam Abu Hanifah (رحمه الله) regarded Mursal Hadith as valid evidence.

✿ Ahadith on Raf‘ al-Yadayn

Hadith of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA):

(Sahih al-Bukhari, p. 106, Bab Raf‘ al-Yadayn; Sahih Muslim 1/168)

Translation:
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) raise his hands up to the level of his shoulders when he began the prayer, when he bowed for rukū‘, and when he raised his head from rukū‘, saying: Sami‘a Allahu liman hamidah.

This Hadith is also reported in the Sunan al-Arba‘ah.

Hadith of Hazrat Abu Qilabah (RA):

(Sahih al-Bukhari 1/102; Sahih Muslim 1/168)

Translation:
Hazrat Abu Qilabah (RA) narrated that Malik bin Huwairith, when praying, would raise his hands at the beginning, when going into rukū‘, and when rising from rukū‘. He further reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) also did the same.
