Assisting Family Members as an Act of Good Character

Helping one’s family with household tasks is considered a praiseworthy trait and a reflection of excellent character in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) exemplified this through his actions at home.

Examples from Hadith

Narration by Al-Aswad (رضي الله عنه):
He reported:
"I asked Aisha (رضي الله عنها): 'What would the Prophet (ﷺ) do at home?' She replied: 'He used to assist his family with household tasks, but when it was time for prayer, he would leave for the prayer.'"
[Sahih: Bukhari (6039)]

Narration by Urwah (رضي الله عنه):
He reported:
"It was said to Aisha (رضي الله عنها): 'What would the Prophet (ﷺ) do at home?' She replied: 'He would do what any of you would do—he would mend his sandals and patch his clothes.'"
[Sahih: Ahmad (24479), Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad (540), Abu Shaykh in Akhlaq Al-Nabi (120)]
