The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:"Whoever meets Allah while being addicted to wine and considers it lawful, he will meet Him like an idol worshipper."
(Reported by Ibn Ḥibbān: 1379, Imām Aḥmad: 2453, Ibn Mājah: 3375)
A person who dies while being addicted to alcohol and considers it lawful is equated with an idolater before Allah. This highlights the extreme seriousness of this sin in Islam.
② Similarity Between Major Sins and Shirk (Polytheism):
This hadith indicates that consuming alcohol with the belief of its permissibility aligns the sinner with the sin of shirk (associating partners with Allah), which is one of the gravest sins in Islam.
③ Believing Alcohol to be Halal – A Grave Crime:
Considering alcohol to be permissible (ḥalāl) is tantamount to rejecting divine law, which can render one outside the fold of true belief.
④ Severe Punishment in the Hereafter:
The delight of alcohol in this world translates into severe punishment in the afterlife. This is a reminder of the spiritual and eternal consequences of such actions.
⑤ Comparable to Idol Worship:
Meeting Allah in a state of habitual, unrepentant alcohol consumption with a belief in its permissibility is akin to presenting oneself as an idol worshipper — an extremely dangerous spiritual position.
❐ A Final Reminder:
He who trivializes divine commands and indulges in sins like alcohol consumption while deeming them permissible is treading the same path as those who commit shirk. True salvation lies in complete submission to Allah’s commandments and in sincere repentance.
