Are Devils the Cause of Not Following the Truth?

Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)

Answer: Yes!

Allah Almighty explains in the Quran how devils contribute to leading people away from the truth:

"وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوا مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ قَالُوا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ آبَاءَنَا ۚ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ"

"And when it is said to them, 'Follow what Allah has revealed,' they say, 'Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers.' Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze?"
[Luqman: 21]

Key Insights from the Verse

  1. Blind Following of Ancestors
The verse highlights that people who refuse to follow the truth often rely on the traditions and practices of their ancestors as their sole justification.
  2. Satan’s Role in Misguidance
Even when their ancestral practices are guided by Satan, leading to eternal punishment, they persist in following them without questioning.
  3. Absence of Rational Evidence
Those who reject divine guidance have no legitimate argument other than blind adherence to inherited traditions, which often lack alignment with the truth revealed by Allah.

Conclusion

The refusal to follow the truth is often influenced by Satan, who entices people to cling to misguided practices inherited from their forefathers. This verse serves as a warning to abandon blind adherence and seek guidance from what Allah has revealed. Following divine revelation protects individuals from falling prey to Satan’s deceptions and ensures alignment with the path of righteousness.
