Source: Fatāwā ʿIlmiyyah (Tawḍīḥ al-Aḥkām), Vol. 2, p. 304

Question: Are all the narrations in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah authentic?

Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!

All the narrations that Imām Ibn Khuzaymah included in his book and upon which he did not mention any criticism are considered authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) according to him.

However, it is not necessary that every scholar agrees with Imām Ibn Khuzaymah’s authentication of a narration.

General Status of Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah

Most of the narrations in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah are either Ṣaḥīḥ (authentic) or Ḥasan (good in grade).

❀ However, some narrations have been proven to be Ḍaʿīf (weak) according to the research of certain Muḥaddithīn.

❀ Other scholars have also criticized some narrations based on Uṣūl al-Ḥadīth and Asmāʾ al-Rijāl (biographical evaluation of narrators).

Which Opinion Should Be Preferred?

❀ The opinion or evidence that is supported by stronger proof will be considered rājiḥ (more weighty and preferred).

Rank Compared to Other Books

❀ In terms of authenticity standards:
Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah holds a higher rank than
Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, and
Al-Mustadrak of Al-Ḥākim.

Remarks on Imām Ibn Khuzaymah

❀ If an error occurs in authenticating a narration, that is a different matter altogether.

❀ However, there is no established proof that Imām Ibn Khuzaymah was mutasāhil (lenient in judging narrations as authentic).
