❀ Shar‘i Ruling on Advising a Husband Who Neglects Congregational Prayer ❀

This article is derived from the book “500 Questions and Answers for Women” based on the fatwas of the scholars of the Haramain, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.

❖ Question:

My husband is negligent in performing prayer in congregation at the mosque. I advise him and express displeasure over this.
Am I sinful for doing so, considering the husband has greater rights over the wife?

❖ Answer:

If a husband engages in actions forbidden by Shariah, such as:

  • Being lazy in performing prayer in congregation,
  • Using intoxicants,
  • Spending nights in entertainment and heedlessness,

then the wife is not sinful for advising him.
Rather, she is worthy of reward for fulfilling her religious duty.

✅ However, the advice should be given gently and with wisdom,
using kind words and a soft tone, as this increases the likelihood of it being accepted and benefitting the husband.

And Allah is the Guardian of success.
