Question:
Can a man ascribe an adopted child to himself?
Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
No, he cannot. Allah Almighty says:
{أُدْعُوْهُمْ لِاٰبَآئِہِمْ} (al-Aḥzāb: 5)
“Call them by [the names of] their fathers.”
And Allah Almighty also says:
{وَمَا جَعَلَ أَدْعِیَآءَکُمْ أَبْنَآءَکُمْ} (al-Aḥzāb: 4)
“And He has not made your adopted sons your [real] sons.”
Hādhā mā ʿindī wallāhu aʿlam bis-ṣawāb.
