What is the ruling on grape wine?
❖ Answer
Grape wine is haram. Authentic ahadith have been narrated on this matter, and there is also ijma‘ (consensus) of the Ummah upon it.
❀ Ḥafiz Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr (رحمه الله, 463H) said:
أجمعت الأمة على أن خمر العنب حرام فى عينها قليلها وكثيرها فأغنى ذلك عن الإكثار فيها
The Ummah has reached consensus that grape wine is absolutely haram, whether in small or large quantity. (After such consensus) there remains no need to elaborate further.
