A Shari'ah-Based Review of the Abrogation of the Torah's Injunctions

❖ Question:

Did the Gospel (Injil) abrogate the Torah (Tawrah) or not?

❖ Answer by Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakeel Nasir ḥafiẓahullāh:

The teachings of Sayyidunā ʿĪsā (ʿalayhis-salām) encompassed the Torah, Zabur, and Injil. If the Torah had been entirely abrogated, then there would have been no reason to teach or act upon it.

The Torah was not completely abrogated. Rather, through Sayyidunā ʿĪsā (ʿalayhis-salām), certain rulings were clarified and modified. However, fundamentally, there was harmony and continuity between the Torah and the Gospel.

Sayyidunā ʿĪsā (ʿalayhis-salām) continued to practice many of the rulings of the Torah and only made changes to those aspects that were necessary by the command of Allah.

✔ Summary:

The Injil did not entirely abrogate the Torah; rather, partial abrogation of certain rulings occurred, while adherence to other parts remained intact.
