A Palace in Jannah for Reciting Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ Ten Times

❖ Virtue of Reciting Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ Ten Times ❖
Answered by: Fadīlat al-ʿĀlim Khidr Ḥayāt Ḥafiẓahullāh

❀ Question:

Is the narration authentic which states that a palace in Paradise is built for the one who recites Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ ten times?

✔ Answer:

Yes, this ḥadīth is mentioned as follows:

عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ... قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم:
"Whoever recites {قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} ten times, Allah will build a palace for him in Paradise."

Sayyidunā ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه said:
"Then we should recite it often, O Messenger of Allah!"

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied:
"Allah is more [generous] and more excellent."

[Musnad Aḥmad 24/376, Ḥadīth 15610 | al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr by al-Ṭabarānī 20/183, Ḥadīth 397]

✿ Clarification on Authenticity:

There is some difference of opinion among the scholars regarding the grading of this narration:

Shaykh al-Albānī رحمه الله cited supporting narrations and chains and declared it ḥasan (sound) in al-Ṣaḥīḥah: 589.
Shaykh ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Khuḍayr also graded the narration as ḥasan.
✔ The work Mawsūʿat Faḍāʾil Sūwar wa Āyāt al-Qurʾān – al-Qism al-Ṣaḥīḥ (2/399) provides an in-depth discussion and concludes that the ḥadīth is at least ḥasan li-ghayrih (acceptable due to supporting chains).

🧿 Important Note:

Some versions mistakenly add the word “aḥad” after “ʿashr marāt” (ten times), giving the false impression that the sūrah should be recited eleven times.

However, based on Arabic grammar and authentic sources, the correct version remains:

عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍTen times.

✔ Summary:

➤ Reciting Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ ten times is a virtuous and established Sunnah action.
➤ The reward mentioned is the building of a palace in Jannah.
➤ The ḥadīth is ḥasan (sound) according to multiple scholars.
➤ This virtuous deed can be performed frequently with the hope of great reward from Allah.
